Cathy makes great guacamole. In fact, we look forward to it whenever we are visiting her. But as much as we love to eat it, there is always a little leftover.
And if you guys enjoy guacamole, then you know what happens to the leftovers. Even if it is put in an airtight container, the top of it will turn an unappetizing brown color. Cathy called this oxidation, but I just call it gross.
Cathy has a great solution for this. She covered the leftover guac with a very thin layer of Ranch dressing before she put it back in the refrigerator. Sour cream would also work as well.
The next day when we took out the leftovers to have with lunch, the guac looked wonderful and all she had to do was stir the Ranch. There was no icky watery brown mess on top of the guacamole.
Just make sure that the entire top of the guac is covered by either the sour cream or Ranch because whatever is not covered will turn brown.
And anytime there's more guacamole, it works for me!

Neat idea. I would have never thought of that.
Beth!
I would LOVE to have her recipe.
Do you think she'd share????
ps. So sorry about your lack of Hobby Lobby. You really might need to move. :)
I am glad you love links because it's my first time visiting and I am leaving you one.:) Hobby Lobby....you're in W-S. (My hubby works in WS)/We are all neighbors...and you have one right down the street in Grsbo, off of Wendover. Check because there may be one in WS. HB is alot like Michaels, only way better with additional things beyond the craft realm.
I love finding neighbors in this blogworld.

Yum! Great tip. I wonder if I were to get my PhD, I would learn stuff like that! :)
Great and easy idea.
GREAT tip! We just had some yucky muddy guacamole I had to throw out... I'll do this next time.
interesting tip
Great idea! If only I liked quacamole! A happy day to you!!
I make a mean bowl of guacamole. It's one of my most favorite food ever! But I never knew that there was a way to keep the brown layer off! I will definitely use ranch the next time I make guac (maybe tonight!).
Sour cream? Genius! I love guacamole...and sour cream. What a great idea :)
Wow, that is the coolest idea. The brown thing is why I never make guac, half of it gets wasted & those dangs avacados are spendy y'all!
Thanks for sharing :)
i loveeeeeeeeee guacamoli. and there is never any leftover.. but great tip. thank you for sharing.
Yummo to my tummo!
One word: BRILLIANT!
I am going to have to try it. I use the traditional methods (lemon juice or avacado pit in the quac) with less than stellar results!
Leftover guacamole? What's that?
=)
Seriously, never had the problem before. But if I'm making, like, a gallon of it, and there happens to be some left over, I'll totally try this!
That's definitely something I want to remember. I love me some avocados in ANY form.
What is up with the MIT grads. My neighbor is a MIT grad AND an awesome baker too.
How sweet!Recipe, please!
This is a fabulous tip. We are BIG quac. eaters here and I will no longer battle the brown. Very cool idea. Thanks!
Pretty good tip and definitely will save the dip. Thanks
What an awesome idea, thanks!
Came to your blog thru my good friend Mom is in the Fishbowl!
Great Idea. The rare times there is any leftover, I throw it away because of the yucky brown stuff. Now, I can save it and enjoy it the next day. Thanks for the tip!
I am the guac. queen...I am totally going to try this!
Beth,
I just loved that. If you only knew how much guac I have thrown out in my lifetime because it turned brown before I could indulge with a sack full of chips!
Your site never ceases to amaze!
