What is Shredding you ask? And no, it has nothing to do with sensitive documents.
As far as I can tell, "Shredding" is what you are doing when you do Jillian Michaels - 30 Day Shred workout video.
Each workout session lasts 20 minutes and it uses an interval system - 3 minutes of strength training, 2 minutes of cardio, 1 minute of ab work - wash, rinse, repeat.
Jillian Michaels is one of the trainers on The Biggest Loser and she seems to know what she's doing, so in a caffeine fueled frenzy, I ordered the DVD.
Last spring, I was up at the crack of dawn every morning for 4 months walking for 45 minutes with my mom. And while I enjoyed talking with my mom every morning, I didn't see any weight loss results.
Granted, I didn't gain any weight during those 4 months, but I didn't lose any either and for me, that was the whole point of getting up before 5:00 AM. We probably weren't walking fast enough. A case of too much talk and not enough action!
So, I've ordered this DVD and I guess I'll give it a go.
I'm going to be 40 in September and I would like to be fit and trim by then.
And apparently, sitting on the couch at night watching The Biggest Loser and eating Kettle Sweet Onion Potato Chips dipped in Tastefully Simple Fiesta Dip isn't doing anything to tone and trim my abs and rear. But y'all, they sure do taste good!
Has anyone done the 30 Day Shred? How did it go? Is this something I can stick to for 30 days or will I be back on the couch with my chips and dip?
And why is it called the "shred?" Wouldn't the "shed" be more appropriated? "Shred" makes me think of shredded cheese, shredded pork sandwiches, shredded lettuce covered in ranch dressing...
Yum...
....where did I put those chips and that dip?

I haven't heard of shredding, but with Jillian in charge, I bet you'll lose weight! You'll have to let us know!
You always make me smile.
I know several folks doing it...but none seem to be boasting big changes. BUT....it is early in the game.
good luck! I need to do something , too.
Good luck with your weight loss goals, Beth. I know you can do it! :) It sounds like a good workout. I love interval training. It keeps you from getting bored. Your probably right about not walking fast enough for weight loss. It works for my husband and I, but we usually do about 4 miles in an hour. Another good thing to do now that the weather is starting to warm up is bike riding. Do half hour of bike riding a couple times a week along with your normal routine and watch the weight fall off! Have fun!! Beth. :)
You make me want to order that DVD! :) I can put it right beside my fitness ball and Wii Fitt (neither have ever been used). But I do go to the gym most days and I know what you mean about no weight loss. I think it just makes me want to EAT MORE. :) Although, I do admit that I'm stronger now than I was. So, I guess I shouldn't whine. :)
Good luck! You have a terrific goal!
Good Luck ! If it works I will be borrowing it.
I have been hearing alot about this shred thing. I just might have to check it out, I'm at a stand still with my weight loss.
OK - I must know how this goes since I've been doing interval walking workouts and I'm not seeing as many results as I'd like!
Although I'm a little afraid of being shredded.
MY cousin is doing it right now..she loves it so far.
I've only heard about it on other blogs - from the comfort of m own couch - eating chocolate.
I did it for 10 days straight and then got sick so I quit for a little while. It kicked my fanny. I lost 18 pounds with combined diet and exercise and the only exercise I was doing was the Shred. Then I got pregnant and now I'm up 6 pounds at only 15 weeks. Oh well. You win some and lose some, right? I would highly recommend it though. Good luck!
I have a friend who is using this DVD. It is amazing how toned she has become, she looks great! Good Luck :)
I haven't heard of 'Shredding'. But I do 'Firm'. Starting back in 2002, I started buying the Firm workout tapes. I liked them so much, I continued to purchase each new series they came out with.
I did lose weight and strengthen my core. After 4 years I got burnt out and thats when I splurged on the treadmill.
I've heard good things about this. Let me know what you think...I may have to try this. 20 minutes a day I can totally do. Especially if I don't have to go anywhere to do it.
