Works For Me Wednesday - Simple Easter Tradition

With Easter fast approaching, I wanted to share a little family tradition we started two years ago. Well actually my husband's family did this when he was growing up and we are continuing it with our family.

After the Easter baskets have been ripped apart and after we have returned from church, the Easter Bunny continues to make surprise visits to our house all throughout the day. On these visits, he hides little chocolate foil covered eggs all around the house.

About 5 times throughout the day, while the kids are preoccupied, my husband will hide a batch of eggs. Then we will point to one of the eggs and say, "Look! The Easter Bunny has been back! How did we miss him?" And the kids will look for the bunny and search for the eggs.

It sounds so simple but I can tell you that my kids love this! It's like a day long egg hunt. And the nice thing about this tradition is that it is portable. When we go to Grandma's for lunch, we just take the eggs with us and hide some at her house.

Just make sure the kids don't see you toting a bag of chocolate eggs around. Because once you explain that Daddy is really the Easter Bunny, then it probably isn't too long until you have to have the whole Santa Claus conversation.

And I think that's probably going to be a harder conversation to have than the "where do babies come from" discussion. But that's just me.

Head over to Rocks in My Dryer for more cool tips and ideas.

I like your tradition. It sounds like a fun thing to do. I also agree with your point at the end... oh how I dread the thought of having that conversation. The Santa one that is. I think i just might lie! =)

That sounds like fun! My little one isn't quite old enough for chocolate yet, but we might start doing that next year! :)

I remember hiding eggs myself for my girlfriend to find. Maybe your kids will like that, too, but you'll want to keep track of where they put them or there could be unpleasant surprises in the months to come.

Thanks for the great idea - I guess you could hide just about anything you wanted and the kids would be thrilled!

This is a nice tradition. My oldest knows about the Easter Bunny (she's 10), but my younger children would love it! We still try to keep it fun for my oldest though, too. We heard about a flashlight Easter egg hunt idea we'll be trying this year- just to put a fun twist on it for her ( :

That is a tradition I will have to think about. How cool is that for your kids to constantly be wondering where the Easter Bunny will pop up next! Nice!

What a fun idea!

You know I took Miss C to Walmart Sunday and she wanted to look at all of the Easter goodies. It dawned on me on the way home that it can't be too long before she figures it all out! But I'm hoping that won't be for a while!

Oh that sounds fun. Even though Lucy is way to young to look for eggs...I still want to hide some. But this might be more for me than her :)

I love this idea! I think it will be an especially fun surprise for my older daughter who knows how the whole Easter bunny deal works. The only small problem might be the fact that started eating the Easter candy last night....

That's very cute! When we have kids, I want to make Empty Tomb cookies (type that in google if you're interested) every year! It's so easy & SOOOO meaningful for the easter season!

What a nice tradition. I am going to try this one this year.

About Santa, usually by the time you are ready to give this one up they have already known for quite some time thanks to the playground. The last kid I told said "I already knew that?" I asked him why he didn't say anything and he said it was because he didn't want to hurt my feelings. So not to worry, most of the stuff they already figured out. I guess that's just the way it goes. The tradition is nice though because the older kids love keeping it from the little kids, like they have privy to a secret with mom and dad that no one else knows. So basically the Santa thing can go on for quite awhile.

I am so stealing this idea for my kids. Even my young adult children will love this. We always hide four eggs especially for them with money it. Every single year my daughter finds the ones with money, and every single year she splits it 50/50 with her oldest brother. Thanks for sharing this fun tradition.

That sounds so cute! Do you use real chocolate, or those plastic eggs?
