All the girls were going and the other leader, Miss Frances, had asked them to wear their vests.
There's one thing you need to know about 13-year-old Girl Scouts. They actually really enjoy Girl Scouts but they DO NOT want to wear the vest in public. Sad but true - they enjoy all the things Girl Scouts has to offer but they don't want anyone to know they are Girl Scouts.
Wearing a tan vest with colorful patches in public is not something a 13-year-old girl ever wants to do. Because, "what if someone seeeeeeeeeeesssssss meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee"! (Actual quote from Sarah when she had to put on her vest to sell cookies at the cookie booth.)
All the girls stood together during the graveside service wearing their vests and honestly it was just the sweetest thing to see - they were supporting their leader and the fact that I knew they all would rather be wearing anything other than their vests made it even sweeter.
Afterwards on the ride home, both Cheyanne and Sarah said they were glad they went even though neither had not wanted to go.
"Mom, Miss Beth hugged me really hard and told me she was glad we all came because it made her feel better to look over and see us all standing their together. She didn't know we were coming so it was a nice surprise for her," Sarah told me on the way home. "I'm glad we went."
I told the girls that no one ever really wants to go to a funeral because funerals are hard and sad and sometimes awkward but everyone is always glad they went.
Both girls nodded their heads in agreement.

That is the truest sentiment about a funeral I have ever read. I am glad Sarah was able to support her leader. (Even wearing a vest, though I think it's sweet they all did.)
That was a very nice thing for the girls to do. I am sure it meant a lot. Teenagers are tough, but it is great that they were able to see the importance of their team appearance.
That is a definite life lesson. Doing the hard thing is always the right thing. And I'm glad their leader told him how much it meant to her that they were there - that truly drove the lesson home.
I'm so glad they all went and wore their vests. I'm sure it meant so much to their leader!
Such a true statement - it's always so important to GO. I've heard it said that "funerals are for the living" and that's why you make the effort to show up even though it's sad and awkward and hard. I am so glad the girls showed their support in such a meaningful way!
It is always a somber and sad occasion and for the young girls, it's also kind of confusing. So nice that they were all there in support.
