I'm sure they aren't reading this, but just in case...

Not that the executives at FOX or American Idol care, but I have written down a few steps they could take to improve their faltering ratings and to make the show less uncomfortable for me to watch.

So if the powers that be happen to be reading this, you can implement these changes and thank me with free Diet Coke and tickets to the finale in May after your ratings improve. Just once in my life I would love to be able to scream, "I'm going to Hollywood!" while waving around a golden ticket but my voice is horrible and I'm slightly over the age limit for contestants so free tickets will be the only way I'll ever get there.

Here are my list of changes: (And if you happen to read Musings of a Housewife, I listed these in her comments section after I read her recap of last night's show.)

#1. - Eliminate Paula as a judge. Kara is a wonderful judge so, in addition to being a little crazy, Paula is now redundant.

#2. - Eliminate the Red Room and the conversations they have there. And wow! How painful was it to have the parents in the room? Especially after all the horrible performances last night. Someone, please make it stop!

#3 - Make the show shorter. I love me some American Idol but last night's show was at least 30 minutes too long. Shortening the show could be accomplished by eliminating the Red Room and by making the judges comment time shorter. Now that there are 4 judges they should all speak less or at least just skip over Paula.

#4 - Eliminate the catty comments between Ryan and Simon. I hate it when they are bickering. It makes me very uncomfortable and it isn't funny at all.

#5 - Provide a little more assistance to the contestants when they are picking out their songs. Horrible, horrible song choices (like last night) make for a horrible, horrible show.

Whew! I feel better now that I got that off my chest. And even if they don't read this and don't make these changes, I still love American Idol and look forward to watching it every week.

And can I just say that Danny Gokey sure can sing. He was my favorite going into Hollywood Week and after last night, he is still at the top of my list!

PS - Did anyone else think Ted Danson looked very freakish with his silver hair and black glasses? I guess he stopped dying his hair. And why were he and Doogie Hauser sitting together? Are they promoting a movie or a new TV show? Why were they even there at all? Usually they save the "stars" in the audience for the final 3 weeks or so. I guess I'm not the only one who loves me some American Idol.

I don't watch every American Idol show, but last night I did watch it. I think Paula seems a little out of it. I agree the song choices were not good. The girl that sang the Police song was beautiful, but that was not a good choice.

OK, why was my comment eaten? Yes, Ted D and Doogie...weird combo...Yes, show was way to long. (this is a shortened version of the first comment I wrote that Blogger ate)

I didn't get to see it because I was watching Biggest Loser. (And I can't DVR one and watch the other later anymore due to trying to become debt free)

But my first thought when I read this was....were Ted Danson and Doogie (Neil Patrick Harris) there "together"?? Just a thought, since "Doogie" is "out of the closet."

Hey...I just noticed...i don't have to type in the wierd letter combos to post comments here anymore!! Yeah!

I'm in total agreement with everything in this post! Thanks for saying it for me too!

Great list! If I had to pick only one of those to go with it would be eliminating the red room.

ps - I'm so with you on Danny Gokey. Love him!

Ok, we are usually all up to speed on AI..but since my TV boycott, I only watch 1 hour a week and that is reserved for 24. But, now that it is middle of Hollywood, i think I may have to allow myself an extra hour a week so I can watch it too. I'll get back with you on my favorites.

Did you notice that the camera men must have been brand new or something? Cuz seriously, I thought I was watching Blair Witch.

I've never seen Blair Witch, but whatever.

I don't watch AI that much, but just so happen to turn it on for a bit last night. I saw Doogie and wondered who the weird "friend" was with him. Assuming, like Kimberly, they were a couple. Had no idea it was Ted Danson.
I agree about Paula. She is too nice to all contestants. They need the truth. She seems like a people pleaser

OMG!!! I so agree with you!! I can not stand this 2 hour show thing when it could easily be shaved down to 1. Danny Gokey IS my number 1 pick and if something were to happen like what happened to Daughtry, so let it be, but he is awesome. I picked David last year,,i just LOVED him and his voice and he was SO original!. I agree with you about the family being there, I mean, what is up with that??? It reminds me of Pageant moms. "oh, she did so good" knowing full well, she was so bad!!!! Poor girl.
I didn't agree with the choice of the rig worker guy, sure he has a nice voice, but there was that other guy who sang first or second that did way better!
Judges, smudges, america is going to vote for, whoever they vote for, i don't think the judges are going to make up their minds. I mean, Simon was wrong last year when he told David Cook that "I Dare You To Move" was THE wrong song choice for the final,,mmmhmmmm

I'm just sayin':)

Funny Funny Post! This is the first season I have left AI and tuned in to Biggest Loser but I will probably watch when they get down to the final 12. This whole new process of elimination is taking way to long. Is Doogie really "out of the closet" somehow that bit of information blows my mind.

Haha. The only problem with removing Paula is that Simon wouldn't have a reason to smirk and roll his eyes as much. =)

Danny Gokey all the WAY! :) Going to facebook him now and see if I can join his fan club!

Agree with:
the Red Room
song choices
Danny Gokey

Disagree with:
Paula!!
She's a bit strange at times, but she's been there since the beginning and I'd miss her if she left, though she does need to stop being so nice when it's obvious the singer is BAAAAAD!!!!

I too was wondering why Ted Danson was with Doogie!
That Was Just Plain Weird!

Day 3 of the Where’s Wenda? Contest is here. Today I am visiting all of the SITStas that commented on Three Bay B Chicks. That means you! Thanks so much for stopping by and for being a great SITSta!

PS: I agree with every single statement made in this post. You are an American Idol guru.

Hey Hey! I love your ideas, and I agree they would make for a better show. I DVR it and fast forward through all the awkward bickering and most of the judges comments. I'm getting REAL tired of hearing that people picked the wrong song. If you can sing, you can sing! Isn't somone around for these poor people to bounce ideas off of? I seem to be able to tolerate Paula better than you, and actually found that I love to excersize to some of her songs from the 90's. haha
