I was on my way home from a doctor's appointment this morning and I noticed something strange ahead of me.
A bright yellow county work truck was parked on the side of the road and two men in bright yellow county work vests were standing in the middle of the road.
I hadn't seen any signs warning me of road work but I slowed down anyway since the men were standing in the middle of the road.
I assumed they must be patching up potholes because one of the men had a shovel in his hands and was actively working with it
Then I realized he was scraping something off the road. As I got closer, I saw that he had scraped a large possum off the road and had it in his shovel. (I won't lie. I gagged a little.)
As I passed him, I wondered if he would also be removing the deer carcase that was laying a few miles up the road.
Because that one is going to be at least a three shovel job.

I always wondered who picked that stuff up. Another example of our tax dollars hard at work.
I think that should be prisoner detail for drunk/reckless drivers.
Eeeewwwwwwww. But at least someone comes to clean them up?
Oh Yuck! I'm glad someone is doing it because I hate seeing dead animals on the road!
Ahhh.. so that's how road kill gets removed. :)
Oh man, I would hate to have that job!! Can you imagine the smell on a hot summer day?! BLAH!!! Esp. if it was a skunk!! PU!!! LOL
OHHH man! That is so gross!!!!
Ewwwwwwwww, someone's gotta do it I guess!
Now that is a dirty job. Another thing to be thankful I don't have to do.
Yuck!!lol
Somebody's got to do it....I'm just glad it's not me. Could you imagine getting to breathe the smell of death every day? Yuck.
Now that is funny. I have never actually seen anyone picking animals off the road, but I have noticed them there one day and gone the next...someone must come by and get them, but I have never had the priviledge of seeing it. Good for you! LOL
Ha ha. That's too funny. A three shovel job? That thing must have really got splattered! :)

lol! i knew that job existed but it is like the phantom job...cuz you never would see them actually being taken off the road! So you have now confirmed that the Road Kill Engineer is not an Urban Legend. lol!
i wonder just how much money they DO make...
Oh, too funny my friend! I am sorry you had to see it, though. There are just some things that are better left to the imagination!
Ugh!! That's a dirty job!!
I'm tagging you for a little something on Thursday...come see me if you want to play along!
My husband use to do that job. He came home once and said that another guy threw up because of the smell those little varmits put off when they are dead and sit around a few days.
Yep, it's a nasty job but someone has to do it.
oh, one other thing, they don't make that good of money!
Ewwwwwwwww... I would have gagged too. This is my first time to your blog. I came form Goodness me where you were tagged. One of my best friends has MS and I've said a prayer for you. Thanks for posting! :-)
