Do they wobble to and fro?

Peter and Sarah are good at getting me to linger in their rooms at bedtime.

Usually they say, "Mommy, can I ask you a question?"

Throught the day they ask me if they can ask me a question before they ask it (not sure why they do this, but they both do it) so it seems only fitting that when they are trying to stay up a little later at night, that they would use this as a ploy.

On Sunday night as I was trying to leave Peter's room I heard the usual, "Mommy! Wait! Can I ask you a question?"

So I said yes like I always do and leaned down over his bed to hear the question.

And as usual, there really wasn't a question but I could see the little gears in his head spinning as he tried to quickly think up one.

Finally, he blurted out, "Do your ears hang low?"

I laughed out loud and then we both began to giggle.

What a memory that kid has! I can't even remember the last time we listened to the CD with that song on it.

Through my chuckling I told him goodnight and that no, my ears did not hang low.

I have lots of things hanging in different places these days but my ears are still right where they should be!

Do your ears hang low?
Do they wobble to and fro?
Can you tie them in a knot?
Can you tie them in a bow?
Can you throw them o'er your shoulder
Like a Continental Soldier?
Do your ears hang low?

I love that song...my half sister, who is 15 years older than me, used to always sing that to me when I was little! ;)

My 3 y/o has a Fisher Price (I think) dog that sings this song but the last two lines are different...

Do they go flip-flop
Can they do it while you hop
Do your ears hang low

Maybe the continental soldier thing isn't politically correct? Or maybe they just don't get it?

Mine always asks me to sing just one more song to him. I love it, actually.

Thanks for the giggle.

Kids are so good at delaying the bed time. I can remember doing the same thing to my parents when I was young!

That is too cute! My children do that to me, also. Always a million questions at bedtime. Sometimes it's hard to be patient and answer "just one more!"

I just started to teach that song to my four year old, and my husband (English is his second language) thinks I'm crazy, lol. I love the imagery this song conjures up, and my daughter is having a fun time with it, too. Hopefully not at bed time, though.
