Works For Me Wednesday - Pizza Night with No-Rise Pizza Dough

When my husband was growing up, Friday night was pizza night at his house. And actually even now whenever we are visiting, Friday night is still pizza night! Talk about a long-lasting tradition!

So we have started having pizza on Friday nights at our house. But as much as I love Domino's, I don't want to spend $15. So I started making the pizza from scratch.

I've been playing around with several different dough recipes and this one is by far my favorite because it is a no-rise dough!

Follow these simple directions and you will be making your own pizza in no time!


No-Rise Pizza Dough
1 Tbsp. active dry yeast
1 cup warm water (105-115 degrees F)
1 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. basil (optional)
1 tsp. oregano (optional)

Dissolve the yeast in the water. Add the sugar, salt, oil and spices. Gradually add the flour until you have a nice stiff dough. Knead the dough for about 4 minutes.

Roll out the dough and press onto a greased pizza pan. Bake at 450 degrees F. for about 8-10 minutes.

I then take the crust out and cover it until Dan comes home. Sometimes I do this several hours in advance depending on our plans for the afternoon. When I'm ready, I add the toppings and bake for another 10 minutes or so until the cheese has melted and the sauce is bubbling.

Alternately, you can make the dough and top the pizza and then bake all in one step for about 15 minutes until the whole thing is done. I prefer to go ahead and bake the crust earlier in the day, it gives me a little more freedom.

What could be easier than this? Now you can start your own pizza night!

I am definitely going to try this recipe!! I have always been disappointed with my pizza dough efforts in the past, but I am not giving up :)

And Saturday is pizza night in our house. We started when we were first married and we just kept going, even though one of our mutant children won't touch pizza with a ten foot pole. Surely a genetic abnormality.

We have homemade pizza once a week as well. That recipe is similar to mine and I love it. My husband raves about my pizza. I'm sure yours is excellent as well.

I think I'll try this too. I usually make our pizza but I use a store bought crust. I make 3 at a time, but I could just keep whipping this one up. And, like Aimee, one of my kids won't even eat pizza.

I'll be trying this on our next pizza night. I like the crust I use at the minute but it does need to rise, which means I usually make a batch of about six once a month or so and freeze them. They take up a hell of a lot of space in the freezer so this would be a lifesaver.

Love your idea! I just tried my pizza dough recipe out of the red plaid cookbook (better homes and gardens I think?) and I left it outside to rise then came back and realized the recipe said to let it SIT for five minutes and then roll it out. Could have saved alot of time if I'd noticed. Oh well. It turned out really good and I substituted half the white flour for wheat. I may try your recipe, because I'm going to do it more often!

This is great! I'm on a quest to find the perfect pizza dough since we love homemade and it's such a great way to use up leftovers. The no-rise is definitely appealing!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I am definitely going to try this recipe- we have been buying pizza about twice a month- and it's not even that good! My parents used to have pizza night where everybody got his/her own small pizza, so I'd love to start the tradition.

Growing up we always had pizza night at least once a week and my mom would make her own dough (I don't have the recipe so I am gonna use yours!) and then she would set out the different toppings and the kids got to help put toppings on. I have done this with our kids only a couple of times and they loved it so I think I need to do this again! Thanks for sharing!

I had to laugh since Friday night has been pizza night for the last 7 years here. My neighbors always pop over and one time one came in and held out a dollar and I asked what is this for, and she said "I'm paying for my slice." Ha ha they all think it's so funny. Glad to hear other people have pizza Friday which is what I call it. You should be her on Wed. which I call Prince spaghetti night. Anyway I have a recipe for both dough and sauce which I love but the idea of a no rise dough sounds too good to pass up so I am going to copy this recipe and thank you, this may save me time on the nights I am running late.
