Last night at dinner we were talking with the kids about their day at preschool. Sarah proudly said, "Mommy, I talked to Ethan today!"
Ethan is the sweetest boy you would ever want to meet. He is polite, friendly and very outgoing and he always speaks to Sarah and Peter. My kids are extremely introverted and will usually look away shyly after Ethan speaks to them.
I witnessed this behavior one morning and I talked to the kids about it after school. After that, when I picked them up, they would happily announce "I said hello to Ethan this morning!" So I didn't think twice when Sarah said she talked to Ethan.
"That's nice honey. What did you talk to Ethan about?"
"I told him I loved him."
"You did? What did he say after you told him you loved him?"
"He said thank-you."
ouch
I told you he was polite.

THAT is hysterical!!! Kids are so funny!
This really made me smile, but yes...I know the feeling..ouch!! Good for your daughter for speaking to Ethan though! It could be the start of a great friendship!
Sarah is so funny. Ethan does sound sweet.
ha ha ha ha ha. That is so funny!!!!
Well, at least he was polite!?
Hee hee...I hope he grows out of that! :)
Hee hee...I hope he grows out of that! :)
Oh, goodness, you inspired a post in me. I will post it after Easter.
Great Great Story.
Reminds me of a time early on when I was dating Paul where the "L" word wasn't yet a thought but made it's way into a conversation.
He came to town for the weekend... we went for walks, made a bonfire, sat under trees, walked by lakes, talked about everything.... as he went to leave he hugged me long and I said, "You better go" to which he responded "I love you too."
WHAAAAAAAAAAT? What did you say? What? Huh? You what me?
Needless to say, the conversation following... the one that brought clarity and resolution to the matter was less than optimal-
Me: You said you love me too?
Him: Well you said I love you!
Me: No! I said, "You better go!"
Him: Oh. Well, I thought you said I love you and I didn't want you to feel bad so I said, "I love you too"
Me: WHAT?
I'll stop there as the rest of the conversation isn't quite blog friendly... :-)
Good news however is that we've been married now for just shy of 10 years.
Bad news is that he still hears now as well as he did then. UGH.
You know, moms always swoon for the courteous boy...
That is hilarious !! Your kids are so funny ! I think they get it from you !
Oh, he is polite! I hope she didn't feel too bad. Kids are so funny!
I'm glad you got whistled at too! That happened to me in Hawaii, but it wasn't a whistle, it was an eyebrow shrug. The guy looked at me and waggled his eyebrows up and down and gave me a big smile. It made my day! (and a lot of days afterwards!)
Ah, young love. I guess it won't be so funny when they are teenagers.
How funny. That's so cute that she told him she loves him.
ha ha ha! Well she is learning young...good for her :)
so early...so sorry!
too cute!
Well, after reading all these months I finally have to respond (even though I've wanted to many times), since I'm Ethan's mom! That is so sweet that she told him that she loves him. He can be rather polite at times. I do think it's funny that he talks about her a lot too. He keeps talking about a party he went to at Sarah's house - but I don't think we've ever been to your house. We might should keep a close eye on them since they might be sneaking off from preschool to have parties at your house! I guess he might be my little heartbreaker.
That is so sweet. My Ethan loves everybody. Today he wanted to go back to school because he forgot to tell his P.E. teacher that he loves her. Next thing you know they will be sharing a bag of goldfish.
How cute kids are so innocent..
Could have been worse, I suppose!
Let's hope by the time he's eighteen, Ethan's got some better lines!
That was so cute! your little girl is so sweet with her I love you ;)
happy easter
Oh, I remember those days!
The little boy I pursued in 5th grade -- for months -- finally sent me a note on the bus. It read:
"Dear Cathy, I give up! I will go with you."
The relationship didn't last long!
heeeheeeeeeeee! I love it. Sounds typical.
Oh, so funny! At least she doesn't get the "ouch" part of that yet? *grin*
That's to sweet. I think she has come out of her shyness a bit!
