The Shuffle is the cheapo iPod. And while it holds a lot of music for $55.00, there is no screen so to increase the volume or select your play list you have to push a tiny button that is built into the earphone wires. And this button is very high up on the wire - a little too close to my ears. Not sure why they wouldn't have put this button closer to the jack that goes into the Shuffle.

In addition to the button being in an awkward place, I could never get it to forward to my play list. (And in order to do this, you have to memorize a series of beeps. It's all I can do to run and breath. I can't be expected to remember a series of beeps as well!)
So I was stuck listening to my husband's play list. Boo. Yuck. Gross.
So after trying and trying to get it to work for a week, and getting more annoyed with each run, I returned it and upgraded to the iPod Nano. It is completely worth the extra $95.00.

And the music I am downloading is actually making my run...dare I say it?....enjoyable!
My current favorite song to run to is "Single Ladies" by Beyonce. I start to giggle every time it comes on. I can't get Kurt from Glee out of my head. (Super excited about it coming back on the air in April!)
The only problem I have with my iPod is that I want to sing while I'm running. And as my husband told me the other day when I had my earphones in singing at the top of my lungs, "I can hear you. It's not good."
But I guess it's just as well because there's no way I could sing and run and breathe!
Does anybody have a really good workout or running song? I'm always on the lookout for something new to keep these runs interesting. Let me know!

Lucky you! I don't have an Ipos, but someday...
I do not have one sweetie.
How lucky you are! I wish I had one to help keep my runs interesting. :-(
I have an MP3 that is just like that!! I use it for my bike rides. I LOVE to listen to musicals when im riding. it's silly but it makes me feel a little less like murder when im working out.
i'm so glad you posted this! i've been wanting to get an ipod...i HATE commercials!!! i love to clean listening to music, but i HATE HATE HATE commercials (have i mentioned that). i love the "Single Ladies" song as well!
Thanks! I was just eying the Nano today and thinking maybe I should save money and get the Shuffle. Forget it - I'll wait until I have enough for the Nano now.
Love my Nano!! Love Single Ladies and Glee! :) Not that I ever work out, but a fave for me is Lady Marmalade, the remake! :) Also love all the songs from Glee that I've downloaded on iTunes! Fun stuff!
I love my iPod Nano! Wouldn't trade it for a Shuffle anyday, anytime. Glad you're enjoying yours.
I have the exact same issues with my shuffle. Hardly ever use it.
glad you posted this for my Ipod illiterate self. I need a manual for this stuff
All of the Glee music is great. You should see about downloading some more of their songs. If I ever get around to opening my MP3 player I know a lot of the Glee songs will go on there for when I'm on the treadmill.
I still haven't downloaded my songs to my mp3 but I've already started a song list. The first one on my list is "Single Ladies"! I also plan to download a couple of Kesha songs (but I've heard that the unedited versions are very bad), Rihanna, Sugarland, Taylor Swift, and Miranda Lambert. I know I'll think of several more out-of-the-blue and I'm getting ready to read all the other comments for ideas!
I'll also download some oldies and 80's music like "R-e-s-p-e-c-t" and "I Will Survive". "Another One Bites the Dust" has a good beat too.
I love my Nano! Let's see, the Glee soundtrack (Don't Stop Believin'), Black Eyed Peas Tonight's Going to be a Good Night, Lady Gaga, Rhianna (Disturbia) and finally, for my last mile or so to really pump me up I downloaded some songs from the Rocky soundtrack. That will definitely get you moving!
