Diet Update

Almost three weeks ago, I told you I was going to lose weight and I told you I would periodically check in and let you know how it was going. I only told you this because I didn't want to embarrass myself in front of the whole Internet. I wanted to go public so that I would have someone holding me accountable for everything that went into my mouth.

And it worked because every time I wanted a cookie over these last three weeks, I have seen your profile pictures staring back at me telling me not to do it. And now I am 4.8 pounds lighter.

But before you guys rush to the comments section to tell me how wonderful I am and how proud you are of me, let me let you in on a little secret...I am sure that it was all water loss and that it will come pouring back on to my thighs and muffin top region on Monday.

Why, you ask? Why would this hard earned weight loss (water or other) come back on Monday? Sunday represents the first time in three weeks that I will have had more than 20 grams of carbs in one day and will represent the first time in three weeks that I will have had SUGAR. Ah, sweet delicious sugar, I can hardly wait. (And if anyone wants to place a Pampered Chef order, please do so. Seriously. Go here.)

I also know that the pounds will come pouring back on Monday because I am switching diet strategies. For the last three weeks, I have been following the Atkins diet. I lost 23 pounds on the Atkins diet after the birth of my daughter. I followed the diet for 18 months and was the thinnest I had ever been and probably ever will be. Sigh...

But for some reason, this time around, the diet is gagging me. The staples of the early phase of Atkins (eggs and meat) are literally making me feel nauseous at the mere thought of eating them. I have been consisting on lettuce and cheese for the last three weeks and have been hungry.

Oh, so very hungry.

And the sad thing is, you are not supposed to be hungry on Atkins. You are supposed to eat whenever you are hungry on this diet but every time I try to eat an egg, I gag. Every time I even think about a sausage patty, a funny little noise comes up in my throat and I have to leave the kitchen.

So I have been walking around like a sad puppy for the last three weeks longing for an apple, a banana or even one tiny grape. And then it hit me....any diet that restricts fruit...FRUIT!...even for the shortest amount of time is probably not the healthiest diet. And what kind of statement am I making to my children when I turn down a piece of fruit they are trying to share with me?

So Monday morning (after I indulge on Chocolate Bliss at the Pampered Chef party on Sunday) I will start my new eating regime. I have decided to eat more fruits and vegetables and limit my tortilla chip intake.

Hmmmm....this sounds new and revolutionary. I'm not sure if it will work but if it does I may have to write a book about it. Wonder if anyone would buy it?

You are too funny. You did a great job, I could not be on that diet for 10 minutes. No sugar, no bread AAAHHH I would be insane. Especially while still trying to feed my kids. Nope,I could not do it.
I tagged you.

Have you tried South Beach? It's lower carb but more lean meats and fruits/veggies/whole grain. Al is on it and has lost 16 (or more) lbs since Christmas. Whatever works for you, toots. The gagging over meat and eggs sounds familiar - makes me wonder... hmmmm?

So to which diet are you going to change? I agree with Megan- go with South Beach! My hubby is on that, and since the birth of Matthew (yea... he had more weight to lose than I did!) he has lost almost 30 lbs. Now, 30 lbs in 6 months is REALLY slow, but we modified the diet a little so that he didn't have to go 100% carb free. Anyway... It is a good diet. I eat all of the dinners and usually when he's home on the weekends I eat what he eats. It's good and I'm never hungry on the days I eat it all day.

Anyway- good luck. 4.8 lbs...is....4.8 lbs, whether it comes back or not! :)

I have done Atkins in the past. It does get old fast. You have to get creative with your food choices otherwise you are gagging down eggs for every meal. It worked pretty well though. But now I am back on my chocolate and gummy bears diet and I am happy with it. :)

Nauseaous? Eggs and Cheese?

EPT?

I think Megan might be on to something!

Good luck sweetie.

That's grear weight loss. But it's interesting the revelation that you had. It's hard to strike a balance but I try to represent all food groups (well, coffee probably gets its own group, not so good).

Good luck with your dieting, hope you find something that doesn't make you gag (LOL!)

I've done Atkins too and it does get old! Good luck with finding a new plan.

I would DIE without my carbs - I don't know how you've dine it thus far. I've never really tried an actual diet - I just need to eat LESS of everything I eat now...

Way to go!

Indulge at the Pampered Chef party... I think it is illegal if you don't!

It's all in moderation. I feel that any diet makes you eat in a way that you wouldn't want to sustain for the rest of your life is a waste of time.
we need to learn to eat properly in real life situations.

good luck!

oh and have a GREAT party!

Small portions in balance with light exercise is the only way I can accomplish anything. I asked my chiropractor for advice on this once and she said to give up dairy. WHAT? No cheese? You have GOT to be kidding me.
So I went back to swimming and still get to eat my cheeses. ymmmmmm
BTW, thanks for stopping by on my blog. You are welcome anytime.

Atkins has never seemed wise to me, but many people have successfully lost weight using it, so I usually just keep my mouth shut on that subject. Since fruits, vegetables, and whole grains are loaded with things that are good for you, any diet that excludes them makes me nervous.

I really like Weight Watchers. It's sensible, easy to follow, and well-rounded. And, essentially, if you want to eat more than one or two items a day, lo-carb.

And I was thinking EPT also - in which case, those pounds are definitely coming back!

4.8 pounds is 4.8 pounds! Water or not! I think once you see a loss on the scale it is easier to follow whatever plan you choose. A weight loss seems to motivate you. You know your body best.
