If you will remember, he said he would do his part by planting the right combination of seed but that we would need to depend on the Good Lord for lots of rain since don't have a sprinkler system.
The Good Lord did not do his part in helping me to have a beautiful, lush, green yard, as last fall was one of the driest on record in 20 years.
And it wasn't long into the summer before the crab grass and Bermuda grass started coming in, choking and killing any grass we did manage to grow. From the road we give off the appearance that we have nice,lush, green grass but in reality it is quite ugly.
So I wasn't too concerned a couple of weeks ago when Cheyanne and Sarah started sprinkling bird seed around the yard.
I wasn't even concerned when they got bored feeding the birds and dumped a whole bunch in one spot.
Until a few days later when I noticed this...
The birdseed was....growing?!
Looks like we have finally found something that will grow faster than the crab grass.
my husband has spent years in a career of landscaping. He has owned a landscaping business, worked in irrigation and landscaping supplies,etc...He is around this stuff all day.Our yard has more bald spots than grass.

ReplyDeleteThe birdseed grows well in our yard too - better than the grass. Maybe we are going abot this the wrong way!
ReplyDeleteOur bird seed just attracts mice. Whatever kind of grass its growing would be a whole lot better than the vines growing outside of our condo now. Might be worth it to bring back the bird seed and see what happens first- grass or mice!

ReplyDeleteWho would have thought bird seed grows THAT! :) We haven't had that happen yet, but we pretty much have every other weed growing in our lawn.

ReplyDeleteIt never crossed my mind that bird seed would grow- but I guess it is a seed.
ReplyDeleteMy neighbor puts out a ton of huge birdseed - looks a lot like sunflower seeds. She also puts out Indian Corn and all it attracts are huge ugly birds and chipmunks. The chipmunks then take the birdseed that the birds inevitably drop to the ground and the Indian corn and bury it all over my yard. And my bury it, I mean pretty much plant it. So, I have little spots like that all over my yard, but occassionally, even the corn starts to grow. The especially do it in my mulched landscaped areas. I hate the little buggers.

ReplyDeleteI've seen that happen! We had a birdfeeder when we moved in, and the squirrels would knock down seeds for their furry friends. The seeds they'd miss would grow, and the lawnmower would have to deal with the tall "grasses."
